Volume 5,Issue 1
Artist Highlight
This issue features artwork of Ukrainian artist Oleksandr Ros who paints in a very distinctive and colorful modern style. Many years ago, when Oleksandr was a student, he made a painting in a modern avant-garde style to be submitted to the art council. Before submitting his work, Oleksandr invited his friends to provide feedback. Many thought his work was too avant-garde and suggested not to submit the work. Oleksandr hung this painting on the wall in the student workshop, where students' works were hanging. Instead, he submitted another, more traditional, artwork for review.
Sometime later, one colleague stopped by to look at the painting hanging on the wall and said he liked it. Then another student did the same. From time to time, people would stop at that painting on the wall and admire it. One friend liked it so much that he asked to give it to him. Oleksandr gave the friend the painting as a gift and since then has never betrayed his modern avant-garde style.
Oleksandr once said, “Modern art opens up many creative possibilities for the artist. Today, abstractionism is the pinnacle of imagery, a kind of music embodied in material form. Modern abstract art opens many creative possibilities for the artist. I want to create works that evoke positive emotions in the viewer, increase his intellectual level and associative thinking.”
