Artist Highlight
This issue features art of Lesya Ross, a Ukrainian artist who has a beautiful and distinguished style. Using bold strokes of brush and pallet knife, she captures the spaciousness of landscapes, the mystery of old cities, and the gentle beauty of flowers. Flowers in Ros’ paintings have bright colors and the sense of tender petals. One can almost smell the aroma of tulips, lilacs, or irises when looking at the paintings. Ros is good in conveying the beauty and wilderness of the Carpathian Mountains, the mountain range that goes through Poland, Ukraine, Slovakia, and Romania. Her haystack paintings are reminiscent of Monet’s many paintings of French haystacks. The city scenes depict the Austro-Hungarian architecture of medieval towns in Western Ukraine.
